More accurate particle size distribution measurement, application to high speed conveyors, and more customer control over results, comms protocols, and flexible warnings for abnormal properties of the bulk material.
With the latest in laser triangulation hardware, the measurement module of the new generation 3DPM makes it possible to measure particles at higher belt speed, using lower strength lasers, and robustly detect smaller particles than ever before. Therefore, the customer base can now be expanded to industries with very high speed conveyors or for processing particles previously too small to be measured robustly.

The first delivery is Rio Tinto in Australia and Eramet in Norway and JFE Steel in Japan also plan to use this new generation of 3DPM very soon. Maintenance is made easier with modular housing options offering a variety of heating and cooling options as well as accessories for dust prevention. Tools and methods for quick and straightforward system calibration and spare part replacement, minimizes system downtime.
The new system has been developed with remote commissioning in mind, making it possible to remotely get the system up and running following an installation. This enables better support opportunities, lower system costs and faster commissioning lead time for the customer.
3DPM® is a world leading vision system for online particle size distribution measurement developed by MBV Systems in cooperation with Australian company Innovative Machine Vision (IMV) and research at Lulea Technical University (LTU). 3DPM uses high speed 3D profile measurement based on laser triangulation encapsulated in a robust protective housing to ensure seamless, low maintenance operation in harsh industrial environments. At the core of 3DPM are the advanced algorithms for particle delineation, classification and sizing ensuring stable reliable measurement suitable for automatic control.
